Here’s a summary of the base mapping changes:

  • ADS OS Premium stylesare replaced by the OS Maps API Road, Outdoor, Light and Leisure styles, provided as WMTS and WMS services.

  • The Standard OS Maps API WMTS services will be available and accessed directly from the Ordnance Survey.

  • Enhanced styles, a WMS and custom base maps will be available to you through Astun Map Services (map.services.astuntechnology.com). In more detail, map.services.astuntechnology.com provides:

    1. A Leisure base map with additional zoom-levels down to large-scales.

    2. Dedicated Leisure 25k and 50k base maps.

    3. WMS for Road, Outdoor, Light and Leisure styles for usage in iShare v5.8 and for printing in iShare v5.8 and above.

    4. Grayscale versions of Road, Outdoor, Light and Leisure styles in WMS and WMTS.

  • OS Open is updated with OpenData scales of OS Maps API Road style.

Let’s take a look in more detail.

Other Base Maps

It is possible to configure iShare and desktop GIS to use a range of alternative base maps, for instance PSGA members are free to register and utilise base maps from APGB to display aerial imagery, infrared imagery and height data . You can see how on this page Configure iShare to use Aerial Photography from APGB.

OS Data Delivery

For iShare in the Cloud (ISiC) Customers the following datasets are typically loaded into either the local iShareData database or the Astun Spatial Data Warehouse (SDW). Please click on the links below to see the Metadata information displaying the latest update dates for each dataset - select Display Mode Full View and the Identification tab.

Backup/Restore and Disaster Recovery

Astun Data Services are hosted within the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) on Amazon Web Services.

Image Modified

A regular backup copy at each data refresh or software update cycle is replicated to a further instance located within a different geographic region for disaster recovery.
