Apply & Store Styling for an OS MasterMap Topography Layer
Overview
This guide is aimed at ADS customers that have Astun provided OSMM data extracts stored in their Spatial Data Warehouse (SDW). Here we will show you how to apply styling to an OS MasterMap Topography Layer for QGIS Users and store the styling in your SDW.
Step-by-step guide
Browse to the OSMM-Topography-Layer-stylesheets repository and Download the Zip file.
Unzip the contents and navigate to Schema version 9 → Stylesheets → QGIS stylesheets (QML)
To get the OS MasterMap symbology you need to install the OSMasterMap fonts by double-clicking the
OSMasterMap.ttf file and a new dialogue window will appear:Click Install.
Copy the osmmsymbols folder (which you will find in the same folder as the OSMasterMap.ttf e.g. OSMM -Topography-Layer-stylesheets -> Schema version 9 -> Stylesheets -> QGIS stylesheets (QML) directory) into the QGIS SVG directory (a typical Windows file path is C:\Program Files QGIS xxxx\apps\qgis\svg, where xxxx represents whatever version of QGIS you are running).
In QGIS load the OS MasterMap Topography Layer data from your SDW database e.g.
Right-click on a Layer → Properties → Style → Load Style
Navigate to the directory containing the QML files (those ending .qml) → select the QML file that corresponds to that Layer → click Open → click OK.
Repeat this step for the other OS MasterMap Topography Layers.
OS recommends:
viewing the map between 1:500 and 1:4000 for maximum legibility and we have set the
minimum viewing scale at 1:4000the following layer order and visibility
To store the OS Styling to your SDW :
Right-click on a Layer after applying the OS styling and select → Properties → Style → Save Style
Select Save style as In Database (Postgres) and enter a Style name → Click OK
The styling is stored in the SDW public.layer_styles table e.g.
