Elgin Roadworks data formatting changes
There will be changes to the Elgin (roadworks.org) service at some point in the foreseeable future. We will update this documentation once we have further information from the service provider and before any changes are made to the service. Please contact the Astun Support Portal if you require any further information.
Introduction
Elgin is a roadworks information service providing details on road closures, roadworks, obstructions, events and other information for road users across a large area of the UK. They provide reliable up-to-date information to the travelling public, the emergency services, businesses, local authorities, utilities and the road transport industry.
Elgin Roadworks data is provided as a SOAP-based web service which outputs in XML format, because of this, the data can only be accessed via a Python script to download the XML to a file on the iShare server.
Configuring iShare
The following steps describe how to configure iShare to download the data for Elgin Roadworks and keep it up-to-date.
- Download the pycurl-7.19.02.win32-py2.7.msi installer (or the appropriate entry for your version of Python) from here and install.
- Customise the Download Script
- Create the Job to Refresh the Elgin data
- Create the Tasks to Download the Elgin data
- Add an XML Feed Data Share connection
- Creat the Task to Spatialise the Elgin data
- Add the Layers to your .map file
- Setup the My Nearest Roadworks layer
