As Feature Builder is a component of Feature Editing, it is only available for OGC Standard Layers i.e. where the data is held in a PostgreSQL database. The PostgreSQL database can be on either the Local iShare server or a Remote server such as a the iShare SDW. Feature Editing is allowed across all schemas in the PostgreSQL database not just the public schema. Permission is granted via the Layer Roles tab on the Roles node in Studio. In addition, the Map Source in which a Layer resides must be secured with one or more Roles before a Layer is editable - see Applying Roles to Map Sources for more information.
Using Feature Builder
First you need to select the Edit Features icon from the available Actions for the Layer for your Polygon or Multi-Polygon Layer.
Now select either the Create or Modify mode, depending on whether you wish to create a new feature or modify an existing one. Then you will see the new Feature Builder button outlined in red below.

- The first map click will create a geometry from the underlying OS MasterMap feature.
- Clicking on adjoining features will enlarge the geometry to include the selected polygons.

- If your Layer is a MultiPolygon Layer you will be able to select multiple polygons to make up your feature e.g.

The polygon feature will be displayed on the map in the layer's style.
Using a Combination of Feature Builder and Freehand drawing
A park in OS MasterMap may be made up of lots of polygons representing different hard and soft surfaces. By combining manual editing and Feature Builder, polygons can be made up that represent an accurate boundary of the park. Similarly water bodies may contain islands or be separated by bridges etc. In order to create the geometry you want you can use a combination of Feature Builder, Add Geometry and manually deleting individual nodes.
Select Polygons with Feature Builder | Select Add geometry and freehand draw a polygon to fill the gap | Hover over the nodes and press Delete to correct the boundary |
